Rockford looks to break out of slump Wednesday

Week 5 Recap
A struggling offense has saddled the Rockford IceHogs with a five-game losing streak heading into Week 6 of the 2008-09 American Hockey League season.  The IceHogs have managed just seven goals during the stretch, but still remain a game over .500 with the three divisional games on the slate this week.

Wednesday, Nov. 5: Rockford 1 at Peoria 3
Friday, Nov. 7: Rockford 2 at Norfolk 5

Bacon Bits:

-Rockford’s five-game losing streak is the longest in its AHL era

-The IceHogs have not lost five games in a row since they closed out the 2003-04 season with seven straight losses from 3/31/04-4/9/04

-Rockford has scored just seven goals in the five-game slump including three even strength markers

-Rockford has lost two games this season when leading after two periods

-Last season, the IceHogs lost two contests the entire campaign when leading after two frames

-The IceHogs are outscoring its opponents 11-3 in the first period

-Rockford is being outscored 15-7 in the third period

-Rockford’s five game-losing streak has had the team getting outscored by just nine goals and includes two empty net goals against

-Despite the losing streak, Rockford’s goalie tandem of Corey Crawford and Antti Niemi have a combined .924 save percentage and 2.36 goals against average this season

-In this young season, Rockford has the second longest winning streak (6) in the AHL and second longest losing streak (5)

Hot Hog Week 5:
In a week where Rockford’s offense was rather lean, winger Pascal Pelletier chipped in a pair of points for the IceHogs.  Pelletier had an assist on Friday night in the IceHogs 5-2 loss to the Norfolk Admirals and scored Rockford’s only goal in the Hogs 3-1 loss to the Admirals on Saturday.

Upcoming Games:
Wednesday, Nov. 12 vs. Milwaukee Admirals.  Rockford returns home at 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs and Admirals meet for the first of five times at the Rockford MetroCentre this season.  Wednesday is this season’s first WXRX Student Rush Night as every student who presents a Student ID at the door no earlier than one hour before the game can purchase the best seat in the house for $10.  Also, every fan in attendance on Wednesday can register to win Blackhawks tickets!  The IceHogs will be giving away three pairs of Blackhawks tickets and five pairs of Penthouse Suite tickets to an upcoming Blackhawks game.

Saturday, Nov. 15 at Milwaukee Admirals: Game time is 1 p.m. A rare Saturday afternoon matinee as the IceHogs head to the Bradley Center in Milwaukee for the back-end of a home-and-home series against the Admirals.  The game is the second of five in Milwaukee against the West Division rivals.

Sunday, Nov. 16 vs. Peoria Rivermen.  The puck drops at 5:05 p.m. Some hockey and then a concert!  The IceHogs and Rivermen face-off for the second time this season on Family Faith Night and a Sunday Fundae at the MetroCentre.  The IceHogs will host a postgame concert featuring former American Idol finalist Chris Sleigh.  Kids can take advantage of several activities before and during the game and can meet SpongeBob Square Pants. The game is presented by Culver’s, U Gotta Jump, 101 QFL, Rockford Public Librar, Comcast and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

The IceHogs Broadcasting Network:

Rockford IceHogs fans can catch all of the IceHogs regular and post-season games on the Hogs flagship radio station Rockford’s Voice, WNTA-AM 1330 and 30 regular season games on ESPN Radio 1380-AM, WTJK.  Fans can also watch and listen to the Hogs on the World Wide Web with AHL Live!  Visit the IceHogs Web site (icehogs.com) and click on the “click here to watch the AHL Live” icon, and for just $6, you can catch all of the IceHogs action on your computer.  Also, fans with Comcast Cable television can tune in to Channel 57 for all the IceHogs hockey action this season.  The broadcast begins with the Pregame Show 30 minutes before the puck drops. Make sure to give your opinion during the Comcast Post-Game Call-In Show following each game at (815) 874-8255.

Hog Talk Returns Tonight At Cousin’s Bar and Grill:
Bud Light Hog Talk returns tonight at Cousin’s Bar and Grill.  Join Jim Stone from 6-7 p.m. at Cousin’s as he chats IceHogs hockey with Hogs Head Coach Bill Peters.  Tonight’s show will also feature forward Rob Klinkhammer and defenseman J.C. Sawyer.  Stop out to Cousin’s, located on the corner of East State St. and Perryville in Rockford, and take advantage of some great food and Bud Light specials.  If you can’t make it out to Cousin’s, tune into 1330 AM, WNTA.

Where to Watch the IceHogs:
IceHogs fans can now catch every IceHogs regular season game live on TV!  Every IceHogs home game during the 2008-09 season can be viewed on Comcast Cable Channel-57.  When the IceHogs are on the road log onto the IceHogs official team Web site, www.icehogs.com, and watch the IceHogs through AHL Live for just $6.  Fans can also stop out to the Sports Page, located on Broadway near Alpine Road in Rockford, and watch the IceHogs when the team is on the road.
