Game Notes for 2/28/09

02/27/2009 11:47 PM - Chris Etheridge
Deep In The Heart Of Texas: The IceHogs are playing San Antonio a night after beating Houston 6-1. Rockford made this tour of Texas trip once last season, but in reverse, burning the three hours of highway from San Antonio to Houston on Oct. 16, 2007. The Hogs won both games of the set in 2007, taking care of San Antonio 4-2 and Houston 3-2.

That Was Quick: Winger Pascal Pelletier scored seven seconds into the third period on Friday, setting the mark for quickest goal scored coming out of the locker room in the IceHogs AHL era. The previous record was set by Bryan Bickell 30 seconds into the third period against Rochester on Nov. 16, 2007. Rockford’s quickest goal all time came from Derek Landmesser six seconds into the game against Madison on Feb. 6, 2000.

This Doesn’t Bode Well: The IceHogs are 0-3-0-0 on Feb. 28 all time with three road losses over the last 10 years. The Hogs were idle on Feb. 28, 2008.

This Does Bode Well: The IceHogs have never lost in regulation at the AT&T Center. The Hogs had not lost in regulation to the Rampage in the first seven meetings between the two teams, but have now fallen in two straight.

The Stars At Night Are Big And Bright...

02/27/2009 2:32 PM - Mike Peck

Not to rub it in, but it’s sunny at 80 here in Houston today.  Definitely a good time of year to come down here!

Skille is up with Chicago and his recall really wasn’t the most conventional recall that we’ve had in the past two seasons.  Skille actually made the trip down to Houston with the team and when we landed, he had to get his gear and hop the next flight back to Chicago.  I’m sure that he’ll take the recall though!

Jordan Hendry will be out at least one more game for the IceHogs and could return tomorrow night in San Antonio.  Nathan Davis on the other hand could go tonight.  Both have been cleared to play by team doctors but the coaching staff isn’t going to rush either player along, especially since the team is carrying a couple of extra skaters.

After morning skate today the Houston Rockets Dikembe Mutombo walked by our locker room and he made Sean McMorrow look like a midget.  The room that the visiting team uses in Houston in just down the hall from the Rockets dressing room.

It’s also worth noting that the visiting room in Houston is actually nicer than the home locker room.  The room is different from last season as they turned the old visiting locker room into a bar (yes a bar!) So the visiting team now uses the old Houston Comets WNBA team locker room.  The Comets no longer play in the Toyota Center and they had a very nice room.

Just one other note for tonight, expect the pace to be a little slower because the ice at the Toyota Center was really soft this morning.  The guys usually comment about how soft the ice is down here and this morning was no different.  It’s a combination of the temperature outside and the fact that the ice is almost always covered.  The Rockets played last night so it was covered until the wee hours of the morning today.
