Kane Named NHL's Second Star Of The Week

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jaroslav Halak, Chicago Blackhawks right wing
Patrick Kane and Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo have been named the NHL 'Three Stars' for the week ending Dec. 27.

FIRST STAR -- JAROSLAV HALAK, G, MONTREAL CANADIENS


Halak posted a 3-0-0 record with a 1.97 goals-against average and .959 save percentage, stopping at least 46 shots in each contest, as the Canadiens (19-18-3) jumped to seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. Halak recorded 47 saves in a 4-3 overtime win over the Atlanta Thrashers Dec. 21, stopped 46 shots in a 5-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes Dec. 23 and finished the week with 47 saves in a 3-2 overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Dec 26. Halak is 10-5-0 with a 2.53 goals-against average, .923 save percentage and one shutout in 16 appearances this season.

SECOND STAR --
PATRICK KANE, RW, CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS

Kane led all goal scorers (five) and recorded eight points last week, helping the Blackhawks (26-9-3) win three of four games. Kane tallied points in all four games and scored the game-winning goal in each of the last three. He recorded one goal and one assist in both a 3-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks Dec. 22 and a 3-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings Dec. 23, posted one goal in a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators Dec. 26 and finished the week with two goals and one assist in a 5-4 victory over Nashville on Dec. 27. The 21-year-old Buffalo native is the first Blackhawks player to register the game-winning goal in three consecutive games since Murray Craven accomplished the feat from Dec. 26-29, 1995. He leads his club in goals (15) and points (42), notching at least one point in 10 of his past 11 games and in 25 of his past 30.

THIRD STAR -- ROBERTO LUONGO, G, VANCOUVER CANUCKS


Luongo stopped 73 of 76 shots in posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.00 goals-against average and .961 save percentage as the Canucks (23-16-0) rose to seventh place in the Western Conference. Luongo recorded 20 saves in a 4-1 victory over the Nashville Predators Dec. 23, stopped 24 shots in a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers Dec. 26 and finished the week with 29 saves in a 5-1 win over the Calgary Flames Dec. 27. Luongo has posted a 19-12-0 record with a 2.28 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and two shutouts in 32 games with the Canucks this season.
