The 2012-13 season is DJ’s seventh campaign with the IceHogs and sixth with the Chicago Blackhawks as the head athletic trainer for their AHL affiliate. The central New York native is the longest tenured athletic trainer in IceHogs history.

DJ obtained his bachelor’s degree in sports medicine and athletic training from the State University of New York College at Brockport in 2003, and went on to complete his masters degree in exercise physiology from Ithaca College in 2005 while serving as a graduate assistant in the athletic training department. During his educational years Jones also worked in emergency medicine.

DJ has served for several successful athletic programs including the Brockport men’s soccer and women’s gymnastics teams, both of which captured their respective league and conference titles in 2002 & 2003, the Ithaca College women’s crew team national championship in 2005, and the Rockford IceHogs UHL Colonial Cup Title in 2007. During the Chicago Blackhawks 2010 Stanley Cup championship campaign, Jones, along with IceHogs Strength & Conditioning Coach Shane Lawson and Head Equipment Manager Russ Holden, was responsible for the teams “Black Aces”.

Jones’ responsibilities include the overall coordination of medical care, therapeutic interventions and injury management. Jones is also responsible for the development and coordination of the IceHogs medical network.

DJ enjoys the outdoors, spending time with family, and plans to pursue a doctorate in the field of biomechanics.
