ROCKFORD, Ill. – The American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs today announced they have agreed to terms with forward Terry Broadhurst and defenseman Neil Manning on one-year, AHL contracts through the 2018-19 season.
Broadhurst, 29, returned to the AHL last season, logging 32 points (13g, 19) in 49 games with the Cleveland Monsters. The 5-11, 161-lbs winger finished fourth among all Cleveland skaters in scoring, and his 120 shots on goal were good for fourth on the team and the second-most of his AHL career. Overall, Broadhurst produced six multi-point efforts on the campaign, including netting his first AHL hat trick on Jan. 23 at the Milwaukee Admirals.
As part of his solid 2017-18 campaign, the Orland Park, Illinois native also ranked second on the team behind only his brother, Alex, in scoring against the IceHogs. The forward posted a point-per-game average against Rockford with four goals and three assists in seven contests during last season’s series.
Prior to returning to the AHL in 2017-18, Broadhurst skated with KooKoo in Finland’s Liiga in 2016-17, and both Skelleftea AIK and Brynas IF in the Swedish Hockey League in 2015-16. He led all KooKoo skaters with 22 assists during his tenure in the Liiga, and helped lead Brynas IF to the playoffs after combining for 14 points (6g, 8a) in 48 games in the SHL.
Broadhurst originally made his professional debut with the IceHogs during the 2011-12 season. He skated with Rockford for parts of each of his first three pro campaigns, posting 59 points (21g, 38a) in 112 games from 2011-14. The forward now enters the 2018-19 season with 117 total points (42g, 75a) in 219 career AHL games with the IceHogs, Chicago Wolves (2014-15) and Cleveland (2017-18).
At the collegiate level, Broadhurst notched 90 points (40g, 50a) and a +7 rating in 110 games with the University of Nebraska-Omaha from 2009-12. He logged double-digit goals and assists during each of his three seasons with the Mavericks, and served as the team’s captain during his final campaign in 2011-12.
Manning, 27, tallied 22 points (4g, 18a) and a +18 plus/minus rating in 40 games with Cortina in Italy’s Alps Hockey League (AlphsHL) last season. The 5-11, 185-lbs blueliner led all team defenseman in plus/minus in 2017-18 and ranked second among Cortina blueliners in points. He has combined for 56 points (11g, 45a) and 56 penalty minutes in 78 career games in the AlpsHL over the last two seasons between Cortina and Fassa (2016-17).
Prior to beginning his pro career, the Nanaimo, British Columbia native skated for four seasons with the University of British Columbia, logging 60 points (12g, 48a), 64 PIMs and a +9 rating in 106 games from 2012-16. Manning led all team blueliners with 16 assists during his freshman year and helped the Thunderbirds reach the postseason during both his freshman and sophomore seasons. Following his sophomore campaign, he earned a bronze medal with Canada at the 2014-15 Universiade, where he shared the lead among team defenseman with four points (1g, 3a) in six contests.
