ONTARIO, Calif. – Will Pelletier potted a goal in each period to earn his first pro hat trick and help lift the Rockford IceHogs to a 5-2 victory over the Ontario Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena Wednesday night. Rockford stretched its point streak to three games with the win.

Pelletier’s trio of tallies doubled his goal total for 2017-18. His first leveled the score after an early Jonny Brodzinski goal put the hosts ahead, as he poked in a rebound at 14:16 of the opening frame. Michael Mersch scored a minute later to regain the lead for the Reign.

Pelletier again knotted the game in the second period, taking an Anthony Louis wraparound attempt and tucking it past Petersen to make it a 2-2 contest.

He completed his hat trick late in the third period, putting away a home-run pass from Viktor Svedberg into an empty Ontario net to seal the win for Rockford.

The IceHogs netted four unanswered goals after Ontario posted their two first-period markers.

Svedberg drifted a backhander past Reign netminder Cal Petersen under three minutes into the final frame to give Rockford its first lead of the game. Ten minutes later, Tyler Sikura posted his sixth goal in his last eight games, a shorthanded strike, to put the Hogs up by two.

Netminder Collin Delia posted a career-high 33 saves for his third AHL victory, and has won his last two starts with the IceHogs. Petersen turned aside 19 of 23 pucks for the Reign.

Next Home Game: The IceHogs take on the Bakersfield Condors on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. at the BMO Harris Bank Center. The contest marks another Fas Fuel Winning Weekday in 2017-18. If the Hogs win, tickets from Tuesday’s game can be redeemed for a ticket of equal or lesser value to the following Fas Fuel Winning Weekdays game on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
