Article By: Nate HaeniRockford, Ill. – The Norfolk Admirals advanced to the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup Finals with a 4-0 win over the St. John’s IceCaps on Tuesday night to sweep the best-of-seven series.
The Admirals and goaltender Dustin Tokarski shutout the IceCaps for the second-straight night, with Tokarski turning away 29 shots. The Admirals set an AHL record for fewest goals allowed in a four-game Calder Cup playoff series, outscoring St. John’s by a 14-2 margin
Former IceHogs forward Brandon Segal chipped in his third goal of the playoffs on Tuesday. In 14 playoff tilts for the Admirals, Segal has racked up three goals and three assists, along with a +5 plus/minus rating and 13 penalty minutes.
The Admirals finished the regular season with the best record in the AHL (55-18-1-2, 113 points) and now await the winner of the Western Conference Finals between the Oklahoma City Barons and Toronto Marlies. The Marlies hold the advantage in the best-of-seven series, 2-1. Toronto and Oklahoma City will faceoff for Game 4 tonight at 7 p.m. at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto.
