04/16/2012 10:17 AM - Rockford ends season 1-1-0-1

Week 28 Recap:
Despite being eliminated from the playoffs, the Rockford IceHogs had a strong finish to the 2011-12 season, notching one victory and nearly pulling off a come-from-behind win in the final contest on the campaign. Week 28 didn’t get off to a good start as Rockford was shutout by Midwest Division foe Charlotte 3-0 on Tuesday. But the Hogs rallied back on Friday against Milwaukee. Rob Flick’s goal early in the third tied the game at 1-1, and then markers from Matt Fornataro and Peter LeBlanc in the shootout pushed Rockford to a 2-1 win. On Saturday, it looked like Charlotte would take another regulation victory over the Hogs, but Brandon Svendsen notched the tying goal with less than a minute to go to force overtime. The Checkers, however, prevailed in the shootout to take a 4-3 victory. Goalie Kent Simpson made his professional debut on Saturday, making 38 saves.
