- Hogs open the season on Oct. 8 against Grand Rapids
Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced the team’s 2011-12 regular season schedule. The IceHogs 13th season of professional hockey in Rockford and fifth as the top affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Chicago Blackhawks will begin on Saturday, Oct. 8 against the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7:05 p.m. at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Rockford’s new schedule features 38 home games and 38 away contests while the team plays in the AHL’s Midwest Division. Of the 38 home tilts, 28 of them fall on the weekend, including 10 Friday, 14 Saturday and four Sunday games. The only Monday home game falls on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 16), while the IceHogs will also play three Tuesday contests and six Wednesday games at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
The 2011-12 regular season will conclude on Saturday, April 14 at the BMO Harris Bank Center against the Charlotte Checkers, wrapping up a three-game homestand. Rockford’s longest homestand is five games from Wednesday, Nov. 23 to Saturday, Dec. 3. The team will spend 15 days away from home on their longest road swing from Saturday, Dec. 31 through Saturday, Jan. 14, a stretch of seven games.
The club’s busiest month on home ice is in December when the IceHogs will host eight games. December contains 14 total games, the most in a single month for Rockford in the upcoming season. January features nine road games, most of any month on the 2011-12 slate.
Game times for home contests this season are set for 7:05 p.m. with the exception of Monday, Jan. 16 (1:05 p.m.) and Sunday home games (5:05 p.m.)
Individual game tickets will go on-sale on Thursday Sept. 8 at noon. Tickets can be purchased by calling (815) 968-5222, on-line through metrocentre.com or in person at the MetroCentre Box Office. Box Office hours are noon-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
