01/15/2011 11:15 AM - Beach’s goal only marker in 1-0 win
Rosemont, Ill.-Back-to-back wins have been hard to come by this season for the Rockford IceHogs. Behind a 32-save performance by Hannu Toivonen, the IceHogs picked up their second straight win and moved two-games above .500 for the first time this season.
Rockford notched the only goal in the only frame that they didn’t control. Rookie winger Kyle Beach picked up a Ryan Stanton pass in the Wolves zone and sniped his ninth goal of the season over the shoulder of Drew MacIntyre at 9:38 of the third period.
After making 15 saves through the first two frames, Toivonen faced 17 third period shots from Chicago and stopped them all for his second shutout of the season.
Rockford doubled up Chicago on the shots in the second frame 14-7, but neither team could crack the goalies. The best chance of the period came 1:40 into the stanza when Rob Klinkhammer was denied by MacIntyre on a penalty shot.
Not to be overlooked was Rockford’s penalty kill which held Chicago to 0-5 on the power play. Rockford came up empty on the power play as well, going 0-4. Chicago outshot Rockford 32-27.
