Stamkos, who has been ranked the No. 1 draft-eligible prospect since this past summer, remained No. 1 Thursday when NHL Central Scouting released its final ranking of the North American players eligible for the 2008 Entry Draft, which will be held June 20-21 in Ottawa.

NEW YORK (April 23, 2008) -- Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom and a pair of Chicago Blackhawks -- right wing Patrick Kane and center Jonathan Toews -- are the three finalists for the Calder Trophy in 2007-08, awarded "to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition," the National Hockey League announced today.
This marks the second consecutive season in which two players from the same club are Calder Trophy finalists. In 2006-07, the Pittsburgh Penguins' Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal finished first and third, respectively, in the voting.

Rockford, Ill.- The Houston Aeros evened the series with a double overtime 1-0 win at the Rockford MetroCentre in Game 2 of the West Division Semifinals on Saturday. The Rockford IceHogs and Aeros played to a scoreless tie in the first 80 minutes, but then at 6:57 in the second overtime, Ryan Jones broke the stalemate with a goal off of the back of Corey Crawford's pad.

General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have signed forward Nathan Davis out of Miami University of Ohio.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Davis, 21, stands at 6-1 and weighs in at 204 pounds. He was the Blackhawks 4th round pick (117th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He played the last four seasons for the RedHawks appearing in 138 games and notching 63 goals and 69 assists for 132 points and 105 penalty minutes.

After beginning the campaign in the Russian Super League, St. Pierre didn’t join the IceHogs in the American Hockey League until Oct. 16th. Though I’m still not in favor of giving teams a point just for making it to OT, I have to admit since the NHL has instituted this rule, the playoff races have become absolutely mind-bending. To have this many teams involved in the playoff races at this late stage of the season, as well as having a few division titles and the top seed in the Eastern Conference all for grabs just blows me away. That, and if it weren’t for the three-point games, my beloved Blackhawks would have been more concerned with tee times right now.
