Milwaukee, Wis. – Despite scoring the opening goal of the game, the Rockford IceHogs gave up the next three to drop a 3-1 contest to the Milwaukee Admirals.
The IceHogs tested Milwaukee’s Magnus Helberg and the rest of the Admirals early with a pair of power plays opportunities in the game’s first five minutes. However, the IceHogs took the lead after they took a penalty of their own which they were able to capitalize on.
Alex Broadhurst took a bounce off the boards and had a breakaway from the blueline. Broadhurst sent a backhanded shot that beat Helberg to give the visiting IceHogs the lead with 6:38 remaining in the opening period.
While the teams traded chances for much of the first period, the Admirals Mike Liambas tied the contest at one when his shot beat goaltender Kent Simpson with 3:10 left in the period.
Much like the first period, the two teams came out firing shots on net in the second. The teams went back and forth and it was Milwaukee’s Colton Sissons’ unassisted goal at the 12:54 mark, giving Milwaukee a lead they would carry into the locker room.
Milwaukee came out in the finale frame and added to the lead with a power play strike from Pontus Aberg to push the score to 3-1 and ultimately iced the game.
Rockford’s Kent Simpson started the game and made 20 of 22 saves before being replaced by Mac Carruth midway through the game. Carruth stopped 16 Admirals chances.
