Blackhawks select 10 players on second day of NHL Entry Draft

The Chicago Blackhawks drafted left-wing Ludvig Rensfeldt (35th overall), defenseman Justin Holl (54th overall), goaltender Kent Simpson (58th overall), defenseman Stephen Johns (60th overall), center Joakim Nordstrom (90th overall), center Rob Flick (120th overall), center Rob Flick (120th overall), center Mikro Hoefflin (151st overall), defenseman Nick Mattson (180th overall) and goaltender Macmillan Carruth (191st overall) to complete the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Saturday.

On Friday, Chicago drafted right-wing Kevin Hayes from Noble & Greenough School (MA) with its first round selection (24th overall).

Blackhawks Saturday (Rounds Two through Seven) Draft Pick Bios:

Rensfeldt, 18, ranked fourth in the Swedish SuperElit League with 50 points (21G,29A) in 39 regular-season contests with Brynas Jr. during the 2009-10 campaign. A native of Gavle, he paced Sweden with six goals and ranked fourth in the tournament with 12 points in helping his nation to a silver medal at the 2010 World U-18 Championships.

Holl, 18, captained Minnetonka High School to Minnesota’s Section 6AA Championship in his senior season in 2009-10. The blueliner tallied 37 points (20G,17A) in 25 games and was a finalist for the Mr. Hockey award, given to the outstanding senior boys high school hockey player in the state of Minnesota. Following the season Holl joined the Omaha Lancers of the USHL where he recorded four assists and a +7 plus/minus rating in 11 contests. A native of Edina, Minnesota, Holl is committed to play his college hockey for the University of Minnesota.

Simpson, 18, posted a 22-9-1 record in 34 games between the pipes for the Everett Silvertips, where he was a teammate of 2009 Blackhawks fourth round selection Byron Froese. The netminder ranked second in the Western Hockey League with a 2.25 GAA and second with a .925 save %. The Edmonton, Alberta, was a member of Team Canada at the 2010 World U-18 Championships, as well as Team Pacific at the 2008 World U-17 Challenge.

Johns, 18, posted three goals and 16 assists in 62 games during the 2009-10 season for the United States National Team Development Program’s U-18 squad. The defenseman also recorded three assists and a +2 plus/minus rating en route to a gold medal with Team USA at the 2010 World U-18 Championships. A native of Wampum, Pennsylvania, Johns will attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall.

Nordstrom, 18, recorded six goals, nine assists, and 53 penalty minutes in 28 regular-season contests with Aik Jr. in the Swedish J20 SuperElit league. The Stockholm native earned a bronze medal at the 2009 U-18 Ivan Hlinka Tournament playing for his country.

Flick, 19, posted career-highs in goals (15), assists (19), and points (34), and penalty minutes (157) in 65 regular-season contests with the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. He tallied an additional four points (2G,2A) in the club’s run to the Ontario Hockey League semi-finals.

Hoefflin, 18, spent the majority of the 2009-10 season with Mannheim in the German Junior League. The Freiburg, Germany, native registered 32 goals and 35 assists in just 24 regular-season contests before collecting three assists in 18 games with Heilbronner Falken of the German second division.

Mattson, 19, recorded a career-high five goals and a career-best 19 points in 51 regular-season contests in 2009-10 and represented the Indiana Ice in the USHL All-Star Game. Prior to joining Indiana he spent two seasons in the United States National Team Development Program. A native of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Mattson will attend the University of North Dakota in the fall.

Carruth, 18, posted a 14-9-1 record with one shutout and a 3.41 GAA in 26 regular-season games with the Portland Winterhawks, before compiling a 5-4 mark in 11 WHL postseason contests. A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, the netminder has spent the past two seasons with Portland.
