IceHogs keep stronghold on second in the West

Week 19 Recap
Two wins in Week 19 helped keep the Rockford IceHogs in second place in the AHL’s West Division.  The Hogs offense got back on track on Saturday after going four-straight games with just one goal.  Three games loom on Rockford’s Week 20 schedule including a pair of home games on Monday and Friday.

Wednesday, Feb. 11: Rockford 1 at Peoria 0
Friday, Feb. 13: Peoria 3 vs. Rockford 1

Saturday, Feb. 14: Rochester 3 vs. Rockford 4

Bacon Bits:
-The IceHogs broke an 0-30 slump on the power play on Friday against Peoria, the longest draught without a power-play goal in the club’s AHL era

-Rockford had its fourth sellout of the 2008-09 season on Friday night

-The club had three sellouts in 2007-08

-Friday’s crowd of 5,951 was the largest of the season for Rockford 

-The IceHogs recorded a season-high 18 shots in the third period on Friday against Peoria and pulled off 14 more on Saturday in the final frame against Rochester

-Rockford scored just one goal in four straight games for the first time in franchise history from 2/6-2/13/09

-Goaltender Corey Crawford played in his 200th career professional game on Saturday against Rochester

-Antti Niemi recorded the IceHogs second 1-0 shutout of the season on Wednesday in Peoria, making 21 saves for his second overall shutout of the campaign

-Niemi earned his first career recall to the NHL following the game

-Niemi became the seventh different IceHogs player to get recalled this season and 20th different player in two seasons get recalled to the NHL

-Defenseman Doug Janik became the second NHLer to serve a conditioning assignment with the Rockford IceHogs when he skated in Saturday’s win over Rochester

-Defenseman James Wisniewski was the first, notching three goals and an assist in two games in December

-The IceHogs are 6-3-0-1 against the North Division this season

Hot Hog Week 19:
Defenseman Danny Groulx chipped in three assists in three games during week 19 of the 2008-09 AHL regular season.  Groulx passed the puck to Adam Hobson, who buried the game winner on Saturday.  He helped on Rockford’s only goal in Friday.  He also added an assist on Rockford’s second goal on Saturday as the Hogs broke out of their offensive slump.  The Montréal, Québec native had an even plus/minus rating on the week for the IceHogs.

Upcoming Games:
Monday, Feb. 16 vs. San Antonio Rampage.  The IceHogs and Rampage rumble at 2:05 p.m.  The IceHogs second matinee game of the season as the team present’s another Kids’ Day.  All kids 18-and-under can purchase a ticket for $5. The IceHogs also welcome the Zooperstars to the game and kids can register to win some great prizes like an iPod Shuffle and gaming systems.

Thursday, Feb. 18 at Milwaukee Admirals. The Hogs and Ads clash at 7 p.m. For the final time during the regular season, the IceHogs head north to the Bradley Center to take on the first place Admirals. The game is the seventh of 10 on the season and fifth in Milwaukee.

Friday, Feb. 19 vs. Lake Erie Monsters. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. The IceHogs return to the Rockford MetroCentre for their first meeting with the Monsters this season.  The first 2,000 fans to the game will pick up an IceHogs Jersey Bag courtesy of Rockford Orthopedic Associates and 97ZOK. 

The IceHogs Broadcasting Network:

Rockford IceHogs fans can catch all of the IceHogs regular and post-season games on the Hogs flagship radio station Rockford’s Voice, WNTA-AM 1330 and 30 regular season games on ESPN Radio 1380-AM, WTJK.  Fans can also watch and listen to the Hogs on the World Wide Web with AHL Live!  Visit the IceHogs Web site ( and click on the “click here to watch the AHL Live” icon, and for just $6, you can catch all of the IceHogs action on your computer.  Also, fans with Comcast Cable television can tune in to Channel 57 for all the IceHogs hockey action this season.  The broadcast begins with the Pregame Show 30 minutes before the puck drops. No Hog Talk Tonight At Cousin’s Bar and Grill:

No Bud Light Hog Talk tonight as the team has an afternoon game at the MetroCentre against San Antonio.  The show, which is hosted by Jim Stone and features IceHogs head coach Bill Peters along with a pair of players each week, will return on Monday, Feb. 23.

IceHogs fans can now catch every IceHogs regular season game live on TV!  Every IceHogs home game during the 2008-09 season can be viewed on Comcast Cable Channel-57.  When the IceHogs are on the road log onto the IceHogs official team Web site,, and watch the IceHogs through AHL Live for just $6.  Fans can also stop out to the Sports Page, located on Broadway near Alpine Road in Rockford, and watch the IceHogs when the team is on the road.
